Start with one record

Pick an album you already return to. Give it a complete listen without asking the next recommendation to arrive immediately. Notice a detail that makes you curious: a drum sound, a guest performer, a producer, or the label on the sleeve.

Follow a credit

Credits are a useful doorway. Look for another release involving that musician or producer, or explore the label's catalog. You may land somewhere very different from the record you started with. That detour is part of the point. Write down what connected the two.

Ask a person

Record shops, independent radio shows, local bills, and friends with specific tastes can offer a different route through music. Ask what someone has been playing repeatedly and why. A reason often tells you more than a genre label.

Keep a small record

Save a few notes alongside the tracks: where you heard them, what caught your attention, what to explore next. A personal listening log makes discovery cumulative. You are building a map of your own attention, not a scorecard of how obscure your taste can become.
